Hjaltibonhoga have just spent the weekend with top Scottish fiddle player Gordon Gunn as part of their first Hairst Helly. Just back from the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, the group joined Gordon for a day of tuition in Mareel on Saturday 17th September.
The evening consisted of a superb concert. The first half was performed by Hjaltibonhoga, revealing for the first time in Shetland the costume worn at the 2016 Tattoos. Gordon took charge of the second half accompanied by Margaret Robertson on piano and Ryan Couper on guitar. The tunes were outstanding. The workshop group from earlier in the day joined for two sets in the middle before Gordon finished off the brilliant night.

This is the first of hopefully regular weekends of tuition for Hjaltibonhoga with talented fiddle players. The band has a trip to Orkney coming up soon and are looking forward to a weekend with the Adam Sutherland School of Fiddle in November.
