Shetland Young Fiddler of the Year

Last weekend in Shetland saw the annual Young Fiddler of the Year competition. Over 100 young fiddlers competed across three age groups for both Traditional and Young Fiddler titles. This year the competition followed an updated format for deciding the winner of the senior section (up to 16 years old). For the first time the results from both the Young Fiddler and Traditional sections were combined to decide the overall winner. Hjaltibonhoga donated a brand new trophy, a Silver Salver, for the senior Young Fiddler. The Frank Jamieson Memorial Trophy which has been awarded to the Young Fiddler winner in the past was awarded to the overall winner using the combined scores.

Anya Johnston is the 2017 winner of the senior Young Fiddler title and the first to be awarded the Hjaltibonhoga Silver Salver. Anya also placed third in the Traditional section.

George Spence who placed third in the Young Fiddler and first in the Traditional sections lifted the Frank Jamieson Memorial Trophy and holds the title of Shetland's Young Fiddler of the Year.

Congratulations, Anya!
